Course Name: UCONN English 1010: Seminar in Academic Writing-Literature and Medicine
Grade:12
Level: College Credit
Credit: 1 credit, 4 College Credits (Students must receive a C or above for College Credit)
Duration:1 semester
Prerequisite: B+ or above in Honors British Literature and Honors American Literature or approval of instructor
Description: Allows high school students to earn college-level English credit from The University of Connecticut. Instruction will focus on academic writing through interdisciplinary reading. Assignments emphasize interpretation, argumentation, and reflection. Students will revise formal assignments and instruction on grammar, mechanics and style. Students will engage in academic inquire and demonstrate through their writing.
Links to Theme: Students will read classical and modern literature all related to the theme of medicine. Students will also examine interdisciplinary articles, films and medical text related to various medical concepts. Topics covered include, but are not limited to, stem-cell research, psychosis, and racism.
