UCONN English 1011: Writing Through Literature-A World of Conflict

Prerequisite: B+ or above in Honors British Literature and Honors American Literature or approval of instructor
Description: Allows high school students to earn college-level English credit from The University of Connecticut. Instruction will focus on academic writing through fiction and nonfiction literature. Assignments emphasize interpretation, argumentation, and reflection. Students will revise formal assignments and will receive instruction on grammar, mechanics and style.
Links to Theme: Students will read classical and modern literature all related to different types of literary conflict. . Topics covered include, but are in limited to, man versus man, man versus nature, man versus society and man versus self. Units will cover medical related topics such as teenage psyche, biological warfare and society without medicine.

Unit II: Man and EarthThis Unit explores man's struggle with nature. Students will appraise the value and power of both man and nature. Students will justify the conclusions they draw.
